Few manufacturers have built up such an outstanding reputation for reliability and service than Volkswagen. As one of the oldest and most recognisable names in the motoring industry, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the independent marquee that produces Volkswagen vans, can actually trace its roots back to 1947.
It was in that year that Dutch importer Ben Pon made a sketch of what was to ultimately become the first Volkswagen van – the Transporter. Full production of the Volkswagen Transporter began in 1950 and to this day, Volkswagen van drivers can still get behind the wheel of a Transporter which is available in several different styles including the chassis and double cab, the panel van, the Transporter shuttle and the Transporter sportsline.
In 1975, Volkswagen vans broke new ground with its first LT utility vehicle. This allowed the company to move into the light truck sector, and since then there have been an array of new vehicles introduced to the market.
One of the most popular Volkswagen vans is the Caddy, which was introduced in 1982. Today the Volkswagen Caddy is a stylish, well-balanced vehicle with a load compartment that combines load space with versatile access.
Other vehicles available in the modern Volkswagen vans range include the Crafter, the Caravelle and the California.
The Volkswagen Crafter won top honours at the What Van? awards and is available as a panel van, a chassis cab, a double cab and a window van. The latter is a passenger carrier with room for up to eight passengers.
